  • Enduro Gearbox Centre

Enduro Gearbox Centre is fully equipped with the latest diagnostic equipment to accurately determine any electronic fault that could be causing transmission failure.

Diagnostics are used to determine the cause of transmission problems. These problems can be caused by a range of issues that can be simple to diagnose, for example leaking transmission fluid. However, most problems, particularly in vehicles with computerised transmissions will require the right diagnostic equipment and well-trained technicians to identify any potential electronic causes.

Our cutting-edge Mercedes-Benz diagnostic services allow our technicians to accurately determine specific transmission problems. The technician will connect specific diagnostic equipment to your car’s onboard computer and interpret the code produced to determine where the transmission problem lies.

Once the transmission problem has been identified, it can be investigated and corrected.

The transmission is a very complicated and sophisticated piece of equipment. And this is even truer of the transmissions found in newer vehicles. There is no one-size-fits-all solution to transmission problems, and anyone who says otherwise is either ignorant or a charlatan. To ensure your vehicle’s well-being –and yours– you should only trust certified experts to diagnose your transmission problems.

Transmission Control Modules

Most modern Mercedes-Benz transmissions are electronically controlled and reliant on computers. The transmission control module is the brain of your automatic transmission as it gathers data from input sensors, as well as various other control modules within your vehicle, which in turn command solenoids to control the hydraulic pressure, in order to accomplish optimum shift quality, transmission performance and fuel economy.

When dealing with transmission shifting problems, it is always advisable to start with diagnostics, in order to determine whether the issue is mechanical or electronic, in order to correctly address your transmission problem.

Signs of a Failing Transmission Control Module

Although Mercedes-Benz components are built to the highest quality, heat fluctuation, voltage overload/underload, water, vibrations and thermal stress can cause your Transmission Control Module to fail.

The most common symptom that you are experiencing Transmission Control Module failure is ‘LIMP MODE’. This is a safety feature specifically designed to detect improper signals that are not within the computer’s programmed specifications, and will disable the transmission’s ability to shift gears and cause it to default to a single usable gear to protect further damage to your transmission.

Some other common signs of a faulty Transmission Control Module include:

  • No upshift or downshift
  • Harsh reverse and drive engagement
  • No kick down
  • Stuck in neutral/park
  • Loss of power while driving
  • Warning lights on dashboard

Transmission Control Module Repairs

Due to the complexity of electronically controlled automatic transmissions, it will take a fair amount of expertise to diagnose the problem, using specialized diagnostic equipment that can read transmission codes.

These codes indicate whether the transmission malfunction has been caused by a mechanical or electronic failure. Invariably if the code displays an electronic failure the problem could lie with faulty electronics such as speed sensors, solenoids and selector sensors or with the internal circuitry of the transmission control module itself.

We are fully equipped and have the expertise to deal with all types of Transmission Control Module repairs and stock a wide variety of reconditioned units ready to be fitted!

All our units carry a one year, unlimited mileage warranty!
